The Faculty of Engineering publicizes that Walter Milligan has accepted the place of Chair of the Division of Supplies Science and Engineering, starting July 1, 2021.
“I’m very glad that Walt has agreed to be the Chair of Supplies Science and Engineering,” acknowledged Dean Janet Callahan. “His 31 years of expertise at Michigan Tech, each on the school and in administration, might be an incredible asset for the Division and the Faculty.”
Milligan started his educational profession at Michigan Tech in 1989, and for 17 years he taught MSE and carried out interdisciplinary analysis on high-performance structural supplies. In 2006, he took on a brand new problem, and was appointed as Michigan Tech’s first Chief Info Officer, and was tasked with constructing a sturdy, campus-wide info know-how group. He held that place till 2015 when he returned to the school, and in 2019-2020 he served because the Interim Division Chair within the new Division of Manufacturing and Mechanical Engineering Know-how.
Milligan earned a BS in Metallurgical Engineering from the College of Cincinnati, in addition to MS and PhD Levels in Supplies Engineering from Georgia Tech. He has labored for GE Plane Engines, Carpenter Know-how Company, NASA – Glenn Analysis Middle, the Nuclear Analysis Middle in Grenoble, France, and the College of Science and Know-how in Trondheim, Norway. He’s a Fellow of ASM Worldwide and a Distinguished Life Member of Alpha Sigma Mu, and has served on the Boards of Administrators of TMS and ABET.
